Why Proper Injection Technique Matters
Using the correct injection method ensures:
- Your medication works as intended.
- You reduce discomfort during the injection.
- You lower your risk of infection or injury.
Whether you’re new to weight loss injections or just need a refresher, this guide covers everything you need to know.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Alcohol swabs – to disinfect the injection site.
- Sharps container – for safe disposal of needles.
- Correct syringe – for SHRED Weightloss, look for the orange-capped syringe.
- Prescribed medication – double-check label, dosage, and instructions.
Step 2: Prep Yourself
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
- Sit somewhere comfortable and relax your muscles.
- Choose your injection site:
- Thigh – front or outer thigh (never the inner thigh).
- Abdomen – about two inches away from your belly button in any direction.
Step 3: Prepare the Medicine
- Remove the vial cap.
- Clean the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab—let it air dry.
- Pull air into the syringe equal to your prescribed dose (example: 10 units of air if your dose is 10 units).
- Remove the needle cap and insert into the rubber stopper.
- Inject the air into the vial without bending the needle.
- Turn the vial upside down with the needle still inside.
- Keep the needle in the liquid and pull the plunger past your dose.
- Tap the syringe to remove air bubbles and push to the correct dose.
- Remove the needle from the vial carefully.
Step 4: Administer the Medication
- Inject immediately after drawing your dose. If not used right away, discard the dose.
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let dry.
- Pinch the skin, insert the needle at a 90-degree angle, release the pinch, and inject slowly.
- Withdraw the needle gently.
- Press (do not rub) the site with an alcohol swab if needed.
- Place needle and syringe directly into your sharps container.
Safety Reminder
